John Gibson Looks to Rebound After Rough Start

STATESVILLE, NC (March 27, 2013) – - After a disappointing Pro All Star Series (PASS) season debut at Dillon Motor Speedway, John Gibson and his Gibson Motorsports team had been looking forward to turning things around this weekend at The Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway. Unfortunately, motor issues will keep them off the race track this weekend.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t run Hickory,” John said. “We always look forward to racing there since we consider it our home track. Unfortunately, the motor problems were worse than we had originally thought and we wouldn’t have been prepared enough to be competitive.”

Mechanical failures plagued their weekend at Dillon. A blown oil line in practice on Friday and a dropped valve during the race on Saturday left the team with a disappointing 27^th place finish.

While Gibson Motorsports is unable to race this weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway, thanks to support from longtime marketing partner, MitiGator, they will be looking for redemption at Dillon Motor Speedway on April 6, 2013, this time racing in the CARS X-1R Pro Cup Series.

“Despite our results at Dillon earlier this month and the motor troubles, I’m confident about our team and car,” said John. “We have a great engine builder in Keith Dorton of Automotive Specialists. Repairs are being made to the PASS motor and we will be running a sealed Automotive Specialists engine in the X-1R series, so we should be in good shape with our #13 MitiGator Ford Fusion in the Pro Cup Series at Dillon next week.”

NFL Players Living By The Code

NFL players are easily some of the toughest athletes in professional sports. The abuse their bodies take on a daily basis, subjecting themselves to bone crushing hits and constant physical abuse certainly puts these athletes in tough guy status.  Professional football players want to win, and are willing to do anything to get to the promise land, even if the means risking their bodies to serious injury. Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew in a recent interview said that he would play through a concussion and even go so far as to hide his injury from NFL trainers.  According to the Huffington Post, a recent Associated Press survey showed that 23 out of 44 players surveyed would conceal a head related injury if they were at risk of being pulled out of the game.

Clearly, many NFL players are willing to hide their injuries so they can continue to play knowing full well the consequences of such actions. Right now the NFL is facing lawsuits from over 120 retired players who claim that the NFL deliberately hid information about the dangers of concussions and other head related injuries. These claims are also based on the NFL not pushing helmet manufacturers hard enough to produce equipment that can further reduce the risk of concussions. It’s uncertain if any of these lawsuits will make it to court.

What fans don’t see behind the glitz and glamor of the NFL is the culture and principles that many of these players follow. They will do whatever it takes to win, period. NFL Referees On the Lookout for Concussion Symptoms

The NFL has just instructed referees to be on the look for concussion symptoms, according to ESPN. The response by the NFL is due to San Diego Chargers lineman Kris Dielman who suffered a seizure on Oct. 23.

The NFL is  aware that concussions are becoming a growing problem, prompting team personnel  and other  officials to take swift action if they notice concussion symptoms on any player.

The problem is many concussions symptoms aren’t noticeable, where a player can receive a concussion and not feel the side affects until his injury worsens to the point where it may no longer be treatable.  The NFL has passed rules to protect players from violent hits, such as helmet to helmet hits or defenseless players who cannot protect themselves prior to impact.

If the concussion problem worsens, the NFL will be forced to look into new strategies as well as equipment that can reduce the risk of these life threatening injuries.

Are All Fitness Equipment The Same?
